Blacksky was not born in a boardroom. It was not funded by people who had never struggled.

It began with a child who taught himself to read from comic books — because the library of the possible was right there on the page, and waiting for permission was never an option.

It began with a paper route. With weeks of early mornings and saved dollars, until there was enough — exactly enough — to buy a TRS-80 for $35. A machine that belonged to no one but him.

He spent months with that computer. First in BASIC, learning the logic of things. Then in Assembly, closer to the metal, closer to the truth. And he still remembers the moment he made the switch — because the sprites moved faster. Visibly, startlingly faster. Getting closer to how something actually works changes everything it can do.

Twenty-seven years of professional practice later, that is still how we build.

We have built systems for the United States Treasury, for USAID, for the Department of Transportation, for the NIH. We have served Fortune 500 companies and federal agencies alike. We have seen, from the inside, how the most powerful institutions in the world make decisions about technology — who it serves, who it replaces, who it forgets.

And we have seen the pattern beneath the pattern.

The pattern is greed.

Greed is not a villain in a movie. It does not announce itself. It arrives dressed as efficiency. It speaks the language of optimization, of disruption, of scale. It builds platforms that extract more than they return. It deploys AI not to liberate workers but to eliminate them. It concentrates power in fewer and fewer hands and calls this progress.

We have watched this. All of these are downstream of it.

The problem is greed. The belief that accumulation is the point. That the purpose of a tool is profit, and the purpose of a person is to generate it until they can be replaced by something cheaper.

We are building against that. Deliberately. Stubbornly. With every project we take, every system we design, every AI we deploy in service of people rather than in place of them.
